CYBER
Cybernetics? Cyberbullying? Cyborg? What do you think about when you hear the word ‘cyber’? You probably know it has something to do with the digital world, but what does it mean? The word ‘cyber’ stems from old Greek. It means ‘helmsman’, and has been used since the 1940s within cybernetics to refer to systems that control certain aspects of machines and nature. Since the 60s (and maybe even the 80s) the machine part of ‘cyber’ has become more prominent. The machines have taken over the word. What else will they take over?
